International Reporting Fellowship
Roy W. Howard National Collegiate Reporting Competition
The Roy W. Howard National Collegiate Reporting Competition is a highly competitive fellowship program. Winners are selected on an evaluation of their overall body of work: variety, quality, execution and diversity. Selected fellows are sent to Japan for the purpose of studying journalism in other cultures, exploring international media organizations and fostering a global cultural understanding. Fellows also have an opportunity to report on an issue of their interest while there.

In 2016 the FDA issued a newly mandate banning several chemicals found in many household products most notably, soap. The FDA determined that not only were companies misleading their clients by suggesting that antimicrobial soaps lead to a healthier immune system but they also determined that soaps that contain chemicals that kill "99.999%" of germs and antimicrobial are actually extremely dangerous because they lend to the creation is a super micro that may not be able to be treated.

56th Annual Hearst Journalism Awards
Referred to as the 'Pulitzer Prizer' of collegiate reporting, The program awards scholarships to students for outstanding performance in college-level journalism, with matching grants to the students’ schools. The Hearst journalism competition is one of the most prestigious and competitive in the nation. Richard was recognize for her investigative work and awarded a position as a Top 20 Finalist.
